The mission of the Crop Protection Division is to develop strategies to manage pests and diseases below economically damaging levels and provide specialized services to the growers to protect their palms from pests and diseases.

Current Research Programs in the Division

  • Integrated management of coconut mite (2003-2007)
  • Studies on the control of leaf rot disease of coconut (2003-2004)
  • Studies on the association of parasitic nematodes and fungi in Leaf Scorch
  • Decline of coconut (2003-2006)
  • Development of a pheromone trap for the control of black beetle (2003-2004)
  • Screening of chemicals for pests and diseases of coconut (2003-2007)
  • Development of an electronic device to detect red weevil infested palms (2003)
  • Studies on the control of coconut pests using plant extracts (2004-2007)
